GTA 6 launch could strain Australian broadband, NBN Co says
NBN Co told TechRadar on 4 November 2026 that it is looking at whether the GTA 6 launch download surge could strain Australian broadband. The network operator said it is preparing for a busy night when the game arrives on 19 November.
What did NBN Co say about the GTA 6 launch?
Australia's national broadband network operator has looked at what the GTA 6 launch might do to the country's internet. NBN Co told TechRadar that it is watching the 19 November release and the download rush that could come with it.
The concern is simple. A big game launch means a lot of people downloading at once, and GTA 6 is expected to be one of the largest of the year. NBN Co said it is preparing for the extra traffic rather than expecting the network to fall over.
Why could the GTA 6 download affect Australian internet?
GTA 6 arrives on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November 2026. No PC version has been announced, so most players will be pulling the game down through their console stores.
When millions of players do that in the same few hours, local networks can feel the squeeze. NBN Co's comments to TechRadar suggest the operator is taking the date seriously and keeping an eye on how the evening unfolds.
What should players expect on launch night?
NBN Co did not say the network will fail, and there is no word of outages or slowdowns being predicted. The message is that the operator is aware of the date and is getting ready for it.
For players, the practical advice is the usual one for a huge release: expect busy servers and slower downloads if everyone jumps on at once. TechRadar reported the comments on 4 November 2026.
