GTA 6 Preload: Date, Time and How to Do It
GTA 6 preload starts November 12, 2026, one week before the November 19 launch. It works for digital pre-orders and for the boxed copy, which contains a download code instead of a disc.
When can I preload GTA 6?
Rockstar says players who pre-order can start preloading on Thursday, November 12, 2026. The game itself unlocks on Thursday, November 19, 2026. Preloading lets you download the game early, so you can play the moment it unlocks instead of waiting for a huge download on launch day.

What time does GTA 6 preload start?
Rockstar hasn’t given an exact hour yet. Some sites say midnight local time, but that isn’t official. Our tip: check your console’s game library on the evening of November 11 and again first thing on the 12th.
How do I preload GTA 6 on PS5?
- Pre-order GTA 6 on the PlayStation Store (or redeem the code from a boxed copy).
- Make sure your PS5 is in Rest Mode with “Stay connected to the internet” turned on, so downloads can run overnight.
- From November 12, the download should start by itself. If it doesn’t, find GTA 6 in your Game Library and press Download.
How do I preload GTA 6 on Xbox?
- Pre-order on the Microsoft Store (or redeem the boxed code).
- Set your power mode so the console can update while it’s off.
- From November 12, check My games & apps, then the Queue, and start the download if it hasn’t started already.
Does the GTA 6 boxed copy come with a disc?
No. Rockstar confirmed the physical edition contains a download code in the box, not a disc. That means boxed copies preload the same way as digital ones once you’ve redeemed the code. It also means you still need a fast internet connection and plenty of free space.
How much space do I need for GTA 6?
Rockstar hasn’t published the download size, so be wary of sites quoting exact numbers. It will be a big game, so free up as much space as you can before November 12. For reference, here is roughly how much space each console has to start with:
| Console | Usable space (approx.) |
|---|---|
| PS5 (original 825GB) | about 667GB |
| PS5 Slim / Pro | about 848GB / 1.8TB |
| Xbox Series X (1TB) | about 802GB |
| Xbox Series S (512GB) | about 364GB |
Series S owners in particular may need to delete a few games or add an expansion card. Still picking a console? Try our console finder.
