How Big Is the GTA 6 Map? Size Compared to GTA 5 and RDR2
The GTA 6 map is the biggest Rockstar has made. Rockstar told Edge magazine its landmass is nearly as big as the maps of GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 put together. Rockstar has not given an exact size in square miles.
How big is the GTA 6 map?
Rockstar has compared the size twice:
| Where Rockstar said it | What they said |
|---|---|
| Edge magazine, reported by GameSpot on October 29, 2026 | The total landmass is nearly as big as GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined |
| The New York Times, reported by GameSpot in August 2026 | The overall map is three times as large as Red Dead Redemption 2’s playable area |
Both put GTA 6 well ahead of anything Rockstar has made before.
Is the GTA 6 map bigger than GTA 5?
Yes. On Rockstar’s own comparison, GTA 6’s landmass is close to GTA 5’s map plus GTA 4’s and Red Dead Redemption 2’s. Rockstar hasn’t given a straight “times bigger than GTA 5” figure, so be careful with any exact multiple you see online.
How many square miles is the GTA 6 map?
Rockstar hasn’t said. Any square mile or kilometre figure going around is a fan estimate, usually measured from trailer footage. We’ll update this page if Rockstar gives a number, or once the game is out and the map can be measured properly.
Where is the GTA 6 map set?
GTA 6 takes place in Leonida, Rockstar’s version of Florida. Its main city is Vice City, based on Miami. Other areas shown on Rockstar’s official site:
- Leonida Keys

You can see roughly where they sit on our interactive GTA 6 map.
