GTA 6 delays aimed at avoiding Cyberpunk-style launch, says Take-Two CEO

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in a new interview that the company would rather delay GTA 6 than release it before it is ready, pointing to the risk of a troubled launch like Cyberpunk 2077's. He did not name that game, but GamesRadar+ reported on 5 November 2026 that it was clearly the one he meant.

What did the Take-Two CEO say about GTA 6 delays?

Strauss Zelnick has explained the thinking behind the waits GTA 6 has had, saying Take-Two would rather hold a game back than put it out before it is ready. In an interview reported by GamesRadar+ on 5 November 2026, he pointed to the risk of a launch that goes badly because the game was not finished.

He did not mention Cyberpunk 2077 by name. GamesRadar+ said it was clear which game he was talking about, given how that release went.

When is GTA 6 coming out?

GTA 6 is set for 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC version has been announced.

The date has moved more than once, and Zelnick's comments suggest the aim is to avoid a repeat of a launch where a game arrives before it is ready.

Why does this matter for players?

A delay is frustrating when you are waiting for a game. Zelnick's argument is that the alternative, shipping early, tends to be worse for everyone.

For now the plan is still a November 2026 release on consoles. If that changes, it will come from Rockstar or Take-Two.
