Quick fixes to try
- Fully restart your console. On PS5, turn it off rather than putting it in rest mode.
- Check for a game update and install it before playing.
- Test your connection in your console's network settings.
- If it says you don't own the game, restore licences (PS5) or set your home Xbox (Xbox). Details in the answers below.
- Still unlocking? Check whether it's out yet where you are.
Is GTA 6 down right now?
Check the official status pages above: Rockstar for its own services, PlayStation Network or Xbox for sign-in, the store and downloads. If they all show everything working, the problem is more likely your console or connection.
Does GTA 6 need an internet connection?
Rockstar describes GTA 6 as a single-player experience and no online mode has been announced for launch. You still need a connection to download the game and any updates from the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store.
Why does GTA 6 say I don't own it?
This is usually a licence problem with a digital copy. On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licences. On Xbox, check the console is set as your home Xbox in Settings > General > Personalization > My home Xbox.
Why can't I start GTA 6 yet?
It may not have unlocked where you are. PlayStation Store listings show GTA 6 unlocking at midnight local time on November 19, 2026, so some countries get it hours before others.
